Located on the main island of the Banda group, Banda Besar, Fort Concordia can be reached by rough roads from either Lonthor or Celamme jetties.
Its one of the more difficult Banda forts to get to, but the effort is worthwhile, as you arrive in a quiet and picturesque village after travelling over the Island’s hills, through nutmeg groves and along the coral-fringed coast.
The fort structure itself is very dilapidated, but the quadrilateral four-bastion layout is still apparent and the gun platforms and powder rooms underneath can still be inspected. A great tree has engulfed the seaward walls, and seems intent on the destruction of what remains of this remote but fascinating fort; the last outpost of the Dutch empire in the East Indies.
